Health Checks
Health checks, also called Wellness checks, are performed as part of puppy and kitten vaccination and also annual vaccinations. The health check involves detailed head to a tail physical exam by the veterinarian. We allow 20 minutes of consult time to accomplish this and to address any of your concerns.
The ageing process is much quicker in pets as compared to humans. On average, one human year is equivalent to 5-7 years in a dog or cat's age. By two years of age, most pets have already reached adulthood. At age four, many are entering middle age. By age seven, many dogs, particularly larger breeds, are entering their senior years.
As pets age so fast, major health changes can occur in a short amount of time. The risk of kidney disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, heart disease, cancer and other serious conditions all increase with age.
These days pets are living longer than ever; the chances are that many may experience a potentially serious illness during their lifetime. Annual health checks can help your veterinarian diagnose, treat or even prevent problems before they become life-threatening. They’re also a great opportunity to ask us about nutrition, behaviour or any other issues.
